Bison Cagers Back Over .500 After District 9 Victory

Clearfield — In Tuesday’s 59-39 loss to Elk County Catholic the Bisons (5-4) reached double figures in only one quarter. In Friday night’s victory over the visiting St. Mary’s Flying Dutch the Bisons reached double digit quarters in every frame but one and the result was a decisive 51-32 victory.

The Bisons got hot early as four different players dropped in buckets in the opening frame with Jack Mellgard and Ben Johnson leading the charge pouring in seven and six points respectively. The Bisons forced numerous Dutch turnovers and held St. Marys scoreless until 2:12 remained in the first quarter. At the end of the period the Bisons found themselves sporting a 19-6 advantage.

In the second quarter the Bisons cooled off a little and only put up 12 points in the period, but yet again four Bisons chipped in with field goals. This time Chad Zurat lead the way with six points in the frame as Clearfield headed into the half with a 31-17 lead.

Clearfield continued to build their lead as the game continued. By the end of the third quarter the Bisons increased their lead to 20 points, 45-25.
 
In the fourth quarter many Bison reserves saw action with 11 different Clearfield players overall seeing time.

The Bisons will be back in action Monday night as they take on Union High School at home with tipoff scheduled for 7:30
