Coalport Man Falls Victim to Phone Scam

COALPORT – State police are investigating a possible ongoing phone scam.

A 24-year-old Coalport man reported to the State Police in Clearfield that he was a victim of a phone scam. Someone called Johns and offered him a discount on magazine sub scri ptions.

He gave the person his bank card information for the sub scri ption. The caller then used the bank information to access his CNB bank account. Seven transactions were made and a transfer of $400 to a Pay Pal account for purchases also occurred.

Police believe this to be an ongoing scam where a person calls a residence and offers magazine sub scri ptions at a discounted rate. They request personal information and then attempt to obtain their bank account or credit card information.

Police are advising residents not to offer personal or account information to unknown callers.
