Bison Stifles DuBois in Big District 9 League Win

Clearfield — Friday night the Clearfield Bisons had a chance to climb up the District 9 league standings with a win over the visiting Dubois Beavers, and with 45-27 victory Clearfield did just that.

The Bisons had three players in double figure scoring in the game with Ben Johnson paving the way with three 3- points shots and 17 points; while Chad Zurat and Trey Campman chipped in with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Senior Jason Bowman also provided a big spark off of the bench pitching in with five points as he, Johnson, Zurat, and Campman accounted for all of the Bison points on the night.

The Bisons jumped into the lead early going up by as many as seven points just minutes into the game. Johnson provided some outside fire power knocking down his first two attempted 3-point shots of the night. Campman and Zurat also pitched in with two 2-point buckets in the first period. DuBois clawed their way back as the quarter ended to cut the Bison lead to two at 15-13.

In the second quarter the Bison’s defensive pressure continued to force numerous Beaver turnovers but were unable many times to turn the turnovers into offensive opportunities. However, as DuBois continued to battle the Bisons did knock down key baskets to carry a 25-19 lead into the half.

In the second half the Bisons used balanced scoring by the four Bison seniors to slowly pull away from the Beavers and come away with an impressive 45-27 victory and perhaps send a message to the rest of the D9 League that just maybe the Bisons aren’t someone an opponent can take lightly.

Clearfield will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to D9 rival Elk County Catholic.
