HARRISBURG – In an effort to increase awareness of potential dangers associated with holiday traffic, the Pennsylvania State Police will participate in National Lifesaver Weekend, Dec. 18-20, announced Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski.
The initiative is sponsored by Operation C.A.R.E., or Combined Accident Reduction Effort.
“The holidays mean more traffic on the roads as drivers and their passengers go shopping, attend parties, or travel to visit families,” Pawlowski said. “We want everyone traveling to have a safe and happy holiday, so we’re urging all operators to drive defensively during this period, buckle up and make sure you don’t drive if you’ve been drinking.”
Operation C.A.R.E. is a nationwide traffic safety program among state highway patrol agencies to reduce the number of traffic deaths on highways through education and enforcement.
Pawlowski said troopers will be focusing their attention this weekend on operators who display aggressive or erratic driving behaviors.
