DuBois City Council Considers Land Offer

DUBOIS – Dubois City Council proposed the consideration of selling a piece of city-owned property in Brady Township.

The city purchased 9.35 acres with the intent of using it for an additional water source. Before DuBois purchased the land, Todd Stiner, who owns land adjacent to that parcel had made an oral offer to the seller with the intent of purchasing it, unbeknownst to DuBois City.

Stiner approached council asking if they would be interested in selling the land if they no longer needed it. During his negotiation with the seller, he had the land surveyed, and installed a septic system on the land. He is still interested in purchasing the land for the same price the city purchased it at, $1750 per acre, cash.

Mayor John “Herm” Suplizio wanted to make it clear that they were not in the business of selling land. Solicitor Toni Cherry added the city “no longer need it due to the location and the topography of the land.”

“I think this is an unusual circumstance, but I think any member of the public has the right to meet or beat this offer,” stated Cherry.

The council gave Jan. 11 by 7:00 p.m. as the deadline for any interested party to submit their offer to council.
