Clearfield Elks Looks to Revive Old Tradition

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield organization is looking to bring back and old-town tradition.

According to a press release the Clearfield BPO Elks #540 has been working over the years to make Christmas a wonderful time for community children. Next year, in addition to their Christmas parade and movie matinee, they will be reviving a long-lost tradition in downtown Clearfield.

The Clearfield Elks will be erecting a giant lighted outdoor Christmas tree. The tree will be located in the grassy point of Land & Mapping (formerly the old Clearfield County Jail) and the decorations will be made by the Clearfield area Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

For those old enough to remember this used to be a yearly tradition, with the tree being placed outside the Clearfield County Courthouse. The tradition fell by the wayside but has been picked up by the Clearfield Elks #540.

Any person or business wishing to donate “new” multi-colored net lights to the tree please contact Karen Potts, Clearfield Elks Christmas parade chairperson at 765-0915. Monetary donations are also welcome.
