LTE: A Thanks from the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department

As the snow began to fall in Clearfield on Saturday morning, it started to feel a lot like Christmas. The crews from the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department were busy getting ready to serve Breakfast with Santa.

Children, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, came flooding into the Agricultural Building at the Driving Park, for breakfast and to see Santa.
Santa, dressed in his red suit and laughing in Ho, Ho, Ho, style, was having fun with the children, as he was greeted by little ones with colored pictures, Christmas wish list letters, smiles and a few tears.

Over 450 breakfasts were served, and of those “243 Free” were served to the children up to age 12.
The children of our community mean the future, and if we can give to them, one day a year, we will continue having this event for the children.

A team of people from Penn State Extension, headed by Jacqueline Amor-Zitzelberger were letting parents know about the eligibility for free kits regarding Lead Testing in Older Homes, in which children under the age of six reside, they were also creating reindeer crafts.

Susan Bloom and her helpers from “First Book” were there in full force to help bring some more Christmas spirit, by giving “Free” story books to the children.

A Surprise Visit was made by Rudolph and Little Rudy, along with their secret chaparones. The minute they came through the door, they were greeted with cheers and clapping of hands. Children ran to hug the Duo as they waved to all. Cameras were flashing all morning and this was no exception.

The annual drawing for Door Prizes, is always a great event ender. Wal Mart Distribution Center, in Woodland, graciously donated nine Bicycles for the event. Santa, reached into the containers and drew the names of the winners.

They are as follows: 4 year old and younger: Branden Wills, Destiny Rothrock, Caitlynn Irwin, Alex Hassinger.
5 to 12 year olds: Adam Coburn, Hugh Brickley, Kassidy Dixon, Brandon Hummel, Geraldo Jaramitte.

Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department would like to express to all who participated in making this event , “A Big Thank You!” Those we would like to say a Special Thank You to are The Progress and Gant Daily for publishing the event and information.

The people who donated their time to help, and those taking an active interest in the children of the Clearfield area, we applaud you, and we will continue to work for the children, our future.

From All Members of Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
