City of DuBois Receives Grant for Lighting

DUBOIS – Mayor John “Herm” Suplizio announced at Monday’s city council meeting that the City of DuBois was awarded a $180,000 grant to make the street lights on the walkways more energy efficient.

The grant was administered by the Department of Environmental Protection and funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 . The grant was open to boroughs, townships and cities with fewer than 35,000 residents and counties with fewer than 200,000 residents.

Out of 1,500 applicants, DuBois was one of 50 to be selected for the grant. The walkway streetlights will have standard bulbs replaced with more energy efficient LED bulbs.

Suplizio was very pleased with being awarded this grant and said, “It’s a very good bonus. We stayed on the Governor’s office and made a few trips to Harrisburg to get it. It’s nice to be one of 50 out of 1,500.”

It was not announced when the bulbs would be changed.
