HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said work should begin in early December to clean up the abandoned Lake Street mine in Bradford Township.

The six-month project includes demolition, removal and disposal of old mining facilities, water diversion and treatment and seeding. The site is located on the south side of US Route 322/Main Street, almost a mile east of the intersection with state Route 970.

Saddle Creek Farms Bedding Inc., headquartered in Canfield, Ohio, submitted the winning $57,394 bid for the project. Federal funds through the Office of Surface Mining will pay for the cleanup.
