LTE: Banana Republic … Banana Borough

At the Clearfield Borough Council Meeting, Councilman Reddinger asked the mayor if she thought it was a good use of taxpayer money defending the borough against her lawsuit. Instead of asking the mayor, he should be asking those members of council who voted to ask for her resignation and stripped her of her duties that she was elected to perform. It was their actions and not the mayor that prompted the lawsuit and they should bear the responsibility for it and not her.

This is the USA and not some “banana republic.” When you start to change the outcome of a lawful election and strip an elected official of the duties that they were elected to perform because you don’t like the results of the election, then a “banana republic” is what you become.

Not once in over a year’s time has the borough council given a public explanation of what they are accusing the mayor of doing. If there is no explanation, there must be no proof of misconduct.

Once again, if you use rumor, gossip and innuendos, you become a “banana republic.” Half of the people on borough council are either former employees of the borough or have relatives who are or were borough employees. In whose best interest are they looking after, the voters’ or their own?

The mere fact that they would ask for the mayor’s resignation on the day of Gov. Rendell’s visit not only shows their lack of judgment but their lack of class.
