Late Scores by Bisons Fuel Win Over Lewistown

The Bisons have known all season that they had to find a running game if they wanted to keep defenses on their toes, and that\’s exactly what they did Friday night en-route to a 35-14 victory over the visiting Lewistown Panthers.  Derek Morgan racked up a carrier high 153 yards and scored 3 touchdowns in the vital victory for the Bisons.

\”Derek had a good game.  Lewistown was dropping seven guys into coverage most of the game and the offensive line did a good job dictating the line of scrimmage.  In this kind of rainy weather you have to be able to run the ball,\” said Clearfield head coach Tim Janocko.

The Bisons got on the board on their opening drive that saw perhaps the biggest play of the night.  On fourth and four from their own 40 the Bisons opted to run a fake punt.  The upback Morgan took a direct snap and rolled to his left finding Jack Mellgard wide open for a 10 yard gain to keep the drive alive.  Morgan capped the drive with a 2 yard plunge.

Lewistown answered right back on a touchdown drive of their own when a Clearfield defensive back blew his coverage and Austin Scheffel found Kody Stein wide open in the endzone for a 14 yard touchdown on fourth down.

\”That\’s two weeks in a row we messed up coverages on fourth down.  Last week it may have cost us the game, but this week we stepped up and made some plays defensively to keep them down,\” said Janocko.

The Bisons tacked on one more score before the end of the half with Morgan this time plunging in from 3 yards out to put Clearfield up 14-7 at the half.  The touchdown was set up by a Chad Zurat interception.

\”We had two big interceptions tonight.  Chad\’s set up a touchdown and Trey\’s (Campman) scored a touchdown sealing the game,\” commented Janocko.

Lewistown wasted no time returning the second half kickoff into Bison territory and on their first play from scrimmage in the second half running back Kirby Moist scampered for a 51 yard touchdown to knot the game at 14-14.

The Bisons answered right back on their following drive with Curtis Frye and Campman hooking up on their only completion a 11 yard scoring strike to put the Bisons up 21-14 and keeping the lead for good.

The Bisons would score two more times with Morgan scoring from 59 yards out and Campman returning an interception 24 yards for a score.

\”We are 3-2 now, this was a big win.  We are starting to pick up on things better.  Our young team won\’t be young for long,\” said Janocko.

The Bisons are scheduled to take on Bald Eagle Area next week, the game is also Clearfield\’s homecoming.
