Bisons Come Up Short Late Against Tyrone

Turnovers, penalties, and poor field position, are three things that almost guarantee doom for a team.  For Clearfield those three things seemed to be a reoccurring theme on Friday night.  The Bisons fumbled the ball twice – once leading to a safety, another setting up a Tyrone touchdown –  and Sophomore Curtis Frye threw two interceptions.

Tyrone put the first points on the board on at the beginning of the second quarter after a Tyrone punt pinned the Bisons inside their own five yard line.  A miss handled shotgun snap and a heavy blitz by the Golden Eagle defense lead to a Safety putting Tyrone up 2-0.

Clearfield quickly answered back with Trey Campman scoring his second rushing touchdown of the season on an end around good for ab36 yard touchdown.  The play was set up after a series of good runs by running back Derek Morgan.

Morgan totaled his highest rushing yardage of the season running for 88 yards, while Campman also added 80 on the ground.

Golden Eagle running back Levi Reihart was not to be out done though, on just the second play of Tyrone\’s next drive Reihart raced untouched on a counter trey for a 35 yard score to put the Golden Eagles back on top 9-7.

Clearfield added a score one more time before the end of the half as Frye connected to Campman for the fouth straight contest on a 15-yard strike.  Once again Morgan provided the spark on the drive rushing for 30 yards in the series.

At the half things looked good for the Bisons leading 14-9; then it all fell apart.  The Bisons were blanked in the second half due to costly turnovers, and drive killing penalties.

Tyrone took the lead for good at 16-14 after Zach Gault plunged in from 1 yard out with seven minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.

It looked as though the Bisons would get a chance to get the ball back with a little over three minutes remaining in the 4th quarter trailing only by two.  Tyrone opted to go for a first down on 4 and 8 to seal the game, and after a blown defensive coverage by a Bison defensive back, they did just that.  Reihart dashed any Bison hopes of victory by hitting pay dirt from 1-yard out to close out the scoring.

Clearfield will look to bounce back next week as Lewistown travels to the Bison Sports Complex to take on the Bisons with kickoff scheduled for 7PM
