Bison Defense Makes Huge Second Half Turnaround to Upend Warriors

Just minutes into the second half it looked as if the Bisons had dug themselves in a hole that they would be unable to get out of.  Three big interceptions and a turnover on downs later the Bisons found themselves scoring 34 unanswered points and coming away with a huge 48-33 victory.

\”This game was really a tale of two halves.  We came out flat in the first half, and found ourselves down 13-0, and I told the kids we can play better than this,\” commented Clearfield head coach Tim Janocko.

Indian Valley waisted no time getting on the board with a Zach Hassinger 95 yard touchdown run with five minutes remaining in the first quarter.  The Warriors waisted no time putting another score on the board just seconds into the second quarter on a Hassinger 5-yard plunge.

The Bisons were able to recoup and score on their first possession of the second quarter with Curtis Frye connecting on a 9-yard strike to Trey Campman with seven minutes remaining in the half.  The touchdown was set up by a great 80 yard toss and catch between Frye and Campman.

The two teams traded touchdowns with Warrior quarterback Cody Heane connecting on a 25-yard scoring strike to Aaron Reed.  But Frye quickly answered back for the Bisons hitting a streaking Derek Morgan down the sideline for a 70 yard score.

\”Trey and Derek both made some big catches tonight, and we have a sophomore quarterback who makes plays,\” said Janocko.

Indian Valley put in one more score before the end of the half to go up 27-14.

Things looked as they wouldn\’t get any better in the second half as Frye through an interception on the first play, his third of the game.  The pick led to another Warrior touchdown, and that\’s when the Bisons went into mission mode.

The Bisons defense forced three interceptions of Heane in the 2nd half and put pressure on him numerous times and converted the turnovers into three Frye rushing touchdowns while Campman and Morgan also added touchdown plunges of their own.

\”Our defense just stepped it up in the second half and made big plays.  This team has alot of heart and has shown they that don\’t get down on themselves and are willing to fight,\” said Janocko.

The victory for the Bisons marks the sixth straight regular season victory over the Warriors, with four of those six wins coming on fourth quarter comebacks.

Clearfield will be back in action Friday as they travel to Tyrone to take on the perennial powerhouse Golden Eagles.  Clearfield snapped Tyrones 35 game winning streak last year with a 35-34 thrilling victory.

\”It\’s not like we play in an easy league.  We have another tough game ahead of us next week,\” commented Janocko

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Notes:  Frye and Campman continue to showcase their ability to find each other on the field connecting for over 450 yards already this season….the Bisons had a major scare as Campman collapsed after walking off the field and laid motionless for almost 10 minutes,  fortunately he will be fine as he was treated at Clearfield Hospital for dehydration and is cleared to play this friday.
