Bison Air Assault Too Much For Mounties

Curtis Frye knew coming into this season he\’d have some huge shoes to fill carrying on the proud tradition of quarterbacks from Clearfield. Friday night he didn\’t disappoint. Frye put together a monster game completing 14 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a touchdown on the ground.

“Like I said last week, he\’s a sophomore quarterback and he\’s only gonna get better. He came up with some big plays and made some big throws tonight,” said Clearfield head coach Tim Janocko of his starting quarterback.

Frye has shown through the first two games that his favorite target is senior wideout Trey Campman. Campman put up the highest receiving total of his career hauling in eight catches for 190 yards and a touchdown. The two hooked up for a major turning point in the game when backed up on their own 7 yardline, Frye heaved the ball down the seam for Campman who outran the entire Mountie defense for a 93 yard touchdown.

“Trey ran a good route and got behind the defense and Curtis just threw it as far as he could. It was just a very well executed play,” said Janocko.

Clearfield got things going early after starting out with great position on their opening drive. The Bisons marched 67 yards in six plays and capped off the drive with a 1 yard plunge by Frye. Campman hauled in 2 catches on the drive for 51 yards.

The Bisons weren\’t as succesful on their next drive, turning the ball over on downs inside the Mountie 20. Philipsburg didn\’t have the ball for long though, as Campman picked off Steve Rusnak\’s first pass and took it 22 yards \”to the house\” to move the Bisons ahead 14-0 with only 14 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

“We won the turnover battle tonight. We picked off some huge passes and recovered some big fumbles,” said Janocko.

The Bison defense played well all night keeping the Mounties off the board until only 5 minutes remained in the half when Rusnak connected with Michael Johns for a 20 yard score.

“Our defense played really well tonight, and Andre Buck had a huge game. I really believe he is an all-state caliber defensive lineman,” commented Janocko.

The teams traded scores in the second half, and perhaps that is where the most exicting play of the game happened. Frye found an open Derek Danver on the sideline who put on a series of exciting jukes and moves on his way to the endzone for a 63 yard strike.

“There\’s not really words to explain that play. It was just an athletic player making athletic moves. It was just a great play,” said Janocko.

Two scores by P-O, a 12 yard touchdown catch by Parker Watson and a 1 yard plunge by Reggie Koval, brought the Mounties within a touchdown in the final frame.

Derek Morgan capped off the Bisons huge night with a 10 yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to come away with the 35-19 win.

“We just played an all around good game. We made the big plays when they needed to be played and won the turnover battle,” said Janocko of the win.

The Bisons will be on the road for the first time this season next week as they travel to Lewistown to take on Indian Valley with kickoff scheduled for 7 P.M.
