Parks Pit Report: Heluva Good! at the Glen Postponed

For the second week in a row, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has been forced to postpone a race due to weather.

Early morning rains at the race track cleared out, and the track was dry for the start of the race.  However, as the drivers were getting ready to strap in and fire the engines, officials told the drivers to get out as there were lightning strikes near the speedway.  The cars were covered, fans left the stands and the race was under a delay.

The rain passed through the area and cleared out, and was still drizzling while the track driers were on the track to wash away the water.  Unfortunately, much like last week at Pocono, the problem wasn\’t the rain, but the time frame to dry the track.

The rain stopped at around 3:15 p.m.  According to NASCAR, it would take over two hours to dry the track.  By that time, it would be closer to 6 p.m. before the cars could get on the track.  Following the NASCAR rule book, officials said that the advertised distance of 90 laps could not be completed in the time that remained.

The Heluva Good! at the Glen will now be run Monday, with coverage starting at noon on ESPN.
