CLEARFIELD – On Tuesday the Clearfield County Commissioners moved forward with the purchase of the Gray Battery building on East Locust Street.
County Solicitor Kim Kesner informed the commissioners that Robert Gray, the owner of the building, had executed the prepared agreement. As part of the agreement the county needed to provide a deposit of $2,500. The purchase price for the building is $183,000. The commissioners approved executing the agreement as well as the $2,500 deposit.
The topic of the county purchasing the building came up in early June. The commissioners discussed purchasing the building to place county offices in. At that meeting Commissioner Chair Joan Robinson-McMillen said that the Children, Youth and Family Services, Veteran’s Affairs, County Planning and the Conservation District would move into the building if they accepted the offer.
The commissioners stated that once those offices are moved a determination will need to be made as to the future of the county’s Multi-Service Center, where the offices in question are currently located. Also located at the Multi-Service Center are Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland’s office and the Penn State Cooperative Extension’s office, among others.
The commissioners said they would not leave the tenants of the building in the dark. The process is still a long one, according to the commissioners. The county has 180 days from Tuesday’s date to close. The building must also be retrofitted to meet the needs of the offices being moved their.
