BROOKVILLE – Corey Bookhamer pitched a five-hitter as the Clearfield American Legion Post 6 baseball team defeated Brookville\’s Laurel Eye Clinic 8-3 under the McKinley Field lights Friday night.
The win was the third in a row for the Chiefs, who padded their Jefferson County League third-place record to 8-4.
Bookhamer struck out seven, walked four and hit one batter in posting his second victory of the week and his fourth overall.
His only problem was pitching to Ryan Zimmerman, who doubled home a run in the first inning and put LEC ahead again 3-2 in the third by scoring on a wild pitch after belting another RBI-double.
Bookhamer blanked the hosts on two hits and struck out five over the last four frames.
Clearfield (9-10) went in front to stay on RBI-singles by Justin Hoffman and Kyle Timchak in the fourth. Hoffman scored on Bookhamer\’s sacrifice fly.
The Chiefs pulled away on Bookhamer\’s run-scoring single off loser Dustin Dombrowski in the sixth and RBI-singles by Aaron Sayers and Shane Harper off reliever Chase Lyle in the seventh.
Hoffman, Timchak and Justyn Knepp had two hits apiece. Knepp and Derek Danver belted two-baggers.
