Once Beaten DuBois Hands Clearfield Legion 23-6 Setback

HYDE – Matt Zimmerman fronted a 22-hit attack with pairs of home runs and singles good for eight runs batted in as DuBois continued its domination of Jefferson County Legion League opponents with a five-inning, 23-6 win over Clearfield at the Bison Sports Complex Tuesday evening.

Three Post 6 hurlers were roughed up by the league leaders, who have amassed 83 runs in their last five victories in molding an 11-1 record.

One night after hanging a 21-2 loss on Curwensville, DuBois jumped out to a 15-1 lead in the first two innings.

Zimmerman\’s three-run homer inside the left field foul pole highlighted the six-run first against loser Aaron Sayers, and seven different players had RBIs in the nine-run second.

Zimmerman hammered another three-run homer off Justin Hoffman in the fourth, and the winners added five more runs off Tyler Jacobson in the fifth.

Leadoff batter Jordan LaBue matched Zimmerman\’s four hits and scored four times.

Kasey Clinton had two hits and three RBIs, while Josh Means, Derek Clark and Billy Ellinger each had two safeties and two RBIs. Tyler Miles also had two hits, and Eric Liddle drove in two runs.

Andrew Redden clubbed a two-run homer and Sayers singled twice for the Chiefs, who dipped to 6-10 with a 5-4 JCL ledger.

Richie Pruzinsky got the win with a four-inning stint. He struck out five and gave up three runs, four hits and one walk. On Friday, he pitched a complete game for the Chiefs in the Bellefonte Bandits Showdown, a wood bat tourney.

Clinton allowed three runs on a walk and three hits in the fifth. Sayers singled and Shane Harper doubled to drive in runs.

Clearfield will play Curwensville Wednesday at home and Thursday at Hepburnia, travel to Brookville Friday for an 8 p.m. start and go to Punxsutawney Sunday for a double-header.

First baseman Corey Bookhamer and shortstop Derek Danver will be among the JCL players in the Region 7 All-Star Showcase starting at 10:30 Thursday morning at the Lawrence Township Recreation Park Field. Seven leagues will be represented by 56 players, with half of them advancing to the All-West Game.
