As Public Relations Chairperson of this year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life held at Riverside Stadium in Curwensville on May 30th and May 31, I would like to thank residents of Clearfield and Curwensville for their generosity and support.
Thirty teams participated in this year’s event with more then 380 registered walkers. To date we are just shy of our goal of $80,000 for the American Cancer Society’s research, education, advocacy and service programs. The outstanding support received proves that the people of Clearfield and Curwensville are truly committed to the fight against cancer.
Thank you to all the children who decorated coin cans and received coin donations for the fight against cancer. The children raised over $1,500 in coin!
I want to applaud the seventy four survivors that participated in the Survivors Reception and Victory Lap. They are the reason we continue the fight because each year there can be more and more people living wonderful lives following a diagnosis of cancer.
There were over 800 luminarias in memory of and in honor of loved ones. A new event this year was the “Show of Memories” where the names and pictures were scrolling on a screen for the night after the reading of the luminaria names. This ceremony helps us to truly understand the American Cancer Society Relay For Life motto of Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back!
We also appreciate the generosity of the corporate sponsors. As well as the many many businesses who donated items and services to the Relay For Life. This event would not be possible without them.
A special thanks to the many Relay For Life volunteers who worked to make this event a success. The Relay For Life committee and ACS staff did an outstanding job of putting the event together.
Again, thank you for supporting the American Cancer Society, and remember, it’s not too early to become involved in Relay For Life for next year!
Sincerely,
Kathy Jacobson
Public Relations Chairperson
