Lady Tide Wrap-up Regular Season with 8-1 Win Over Brockway

BROCKWAY – In what could be a preview of a District 9 Class “A” semi-final battle, the Curwensville Lady Tide softball squad beat Brockway Saturday afternoon 8-1.

The road win gives the Lady Tide a final regular season record of 19-1 and the title of the District 9 Northern Allegany Small School Division Southern Tier at 14-0.

Curwensville had beaten the Lady Rovers in their first game of the 2009 season 5-0. Brockway is seeded number three in the upcoming District 9 Class “A” playoffs and could meet up with the Lady Tide in the semi-finals.

Stacey Johnson and Molly Demchak made the most of their first starts of the year for Curwensville in the victory at Brockway.

Johnson made her first pitching outing of the year, giving Holly Lansberry the day off, a good one, as she scattered four hits and striking out seven to pick up the win.

Head coach Allen Leigey of Curwensville spoke about Johnson, “Stacey was a little nervous before the game but she quickly showed poise and control. She pitched very well against a very good Brockway team.”

Molly Demchak started at dp for the Lady Tide and promptly went four for four at the plate, driving in two teammates.

Leigey commented about his freshman, “Molly (Demchak) just tore the cover off the ball. What a great day at the plate for a freshman. She displayed a lot of confidence in the batters box and it really paid off.”

Shannon McDonald, Johnson and Erin Bressler all had two hits apiece for the Tide. McDonald stroked two doubles while Jenae Stiles had one two-bagger to pace Curwensville.

The Lady Tide are the number two seed in the upcoming District 9 Class “A” playoffs and Leigey and his team are ready, “We are definitely looking forward to the district playoffs. After the tough week we just put in these girls are ready to go and are really focused on the task at hand.”

Curwensville drew a bye in the first round and will host the winner of Monday\’s Northern Potter and Clarion-Limestone first round game.

The Tide will host the quarter-final game on Wednesday at 4:30 pm at Riverside Stadium.
