ALTOONA – Altoona\’s Jessica Seasoltz bested Clearfield\’s Andrea Butler in a well-played 1-0 pitcher\’s duel at Logan Elementary School Field Friday.
\”It was a great game,\” Lady Bison coach Bob Dixon said. \”It was fast. Andrea threw only pitches 68 pitches.
\”She was really on, and we played good defense behind her.\”
The non-league game\’s only run came in the sixth inning.
Working on a one-hitter, Butler issued a one-out walk to Brooke Kudlaweic, who moved into scoring position on Molly Glunt\’s single.
Butler knocked down Didi Rizzo\’s comebacker and scrambled to get the out at first, but Seasoltz then won her own game with a single through the left side.
Butler struck out three and walked two.
Megan Butler had the only hit off Seasoltz, who registered 12 strikeouts and didn\’t walk a batter.
\”The girls played hard, but we just came up short against a good pitcher,\” Dixon said. \”A couple times when she got behind 3-1 and 3-0, she reached down and brought some heat we hadn\’t seen this year.
\”She really came back blazing. That\’s what good pitchers do.\”
Seasoltz, who fired a three-hitter in a 7-1 Central Penn League win at Clearfield on April 16, will lead the No. 2 seed Lady Mountain Lions (10-6) into the District 6 Class AAAA Playoffs next week.
Clearfield (4-13) was scheduled to play an 11 o\’clock District 9 Northern Allegany League make-up game at Punxsutawney Saturday morning.
The Lady Bisons finish the season Monday against St. Marys in another D9NAL make-up game.
