Lady Tide Stay Perfect with 10-0 Victory Over DCC

DUBOIS – Shaking off another long layoff the Curwensville high school softball team returned to action Tuesday afternoon in blanking the Lady Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic, 10-0.

The Lady Tide had beaten DCC earlier this year when Tide pitcher, Holly Lansberry, tossed a no-hitter by the same 10-0 score. Lansberry this time around gave up only one hit while striking out 16.

In the two games against DuBois Central Catholic Lansberry struck out a total of 31 Lady Cardinals in just twelve innings of work. The Lady Tide ace now has 138 strikeouts in 64 innings this year and is now just two K’s behind the area’s all-time leader, Jen Wagner of Glendale. Lansberry has a total of 720 strikeouts in her career at Curwensville.

The Lady Tide and their ace hurler are now 12-0 on the year. Curwensville also runs it’s record to 9-0 in the District 9 Northern Allegany League Small School Division Southern Tier.

It actually took the Lady Tide a complete game to come up with the win, which really didn’t bother their head coach Allen Leigey, “This may sound crazy, but it was good for us to go the entire seven innings. We hadn’t played since last Wednesday and we needed the work.”

The Lady Tide did pick up two runs in the first, but it took them awhile to get some more as they scored four in the fourth and a big five in the top of the seventh inning.

Senior shortstop Shannon McDonald had three hits with junior first baseman Stacey Johnson and Erin Bressler, senior right fielder, each adding two.

Lansberry had a seventh inning double that drove in two of her teammates. Catcher Ashley Demchak, another senior, also had a double in the seventh.

Leigey added, “I know it was cold and windy, but we were a little ragged at times this afternoon. Still, it’s always nice to come home with the win.”

Curwensville will host Moshannon Valley on Wednesday at 4:15 pm in a Moshannon Valley League battle.
