Curwensville Baseball Back on Track with 15-0 Pasting of Glendale

FLINTON – The Curwensville Golden Tide baseball squad got back on track Tuesday afternoon as they hammered their hosts, Glendale, 15-0 in a game that was called after four innings due to the fifteen run rule.

The Moshannon Valley League (MVL) victory broke a two game losing streak for Curwensville who now stand at 7-3. In the MVL the Tide are now 3-0 on the 2009 campaign.

Jesse Hoover picked up the win for the Tide going the first three innings while Tyler Johns pitched the fourth and final inning.

Curwensville head coach Ryan Briskar spoke of his two pitchers, “Jesse (Hoover) pitched well during his three innings of work and Tyler (Johns) did a great job in closing the last inning with three strikeouts.”

The Tide scored in each of the four innings played with the fourth being the biggest as they put seven runs on the scoreboard to win going away.

Tide leftfielder Sam Gardner had a three run home run in the top of the first with one out. Teammate Derek Dixon joined the home run parade with a second inning solo shot. On the day Dixon was 2 for 2 with two runs driven in.

Dixon, who starts on occasion, and Gardner were praised by Briskar, “Derek Dixon was very productive today on offense for us. And Sam had a nice home run to get us off on the right foot.”

Ben McGary stroked two hits which brought in a total of three RBI’s. Catcher Cory Bloom drove in two to help pace the Tide attack.

Briskar added, “ Cory Bloom and Ben (McGary) each had a good day at the plate. They were both on top of the ball.”

The only base hit that the Vikings could come up with was a first inning single by their leadoff hitter, Brad O’Donnell.

Briskar talked about the hitting display his team put on, “Hopefully this will get us going and we can continue to hit the ball well.”

Next up for the Golden Tide is a Wednesday journey to Johnsonburg for a 4:15 pm start of another D-9 Northern Allegany League game. The Tide handled the Rams the first time around this season, winning 4-2 at Curwensville.
