Lady Bisons Run Into Tough Pitching Against Central Mountain, DuBois

DUBOIS – Confronted by above-average pitching for the third time in four days, the Clearfield Area High School softball team was dealt a 9-1 District 9 Northern Allegany League setback by DuBois Monday afternoon.

The Lady Bisons got to Carly Wallock for four singles, all in the fourth inning when Courtney Morgan drove in their lone run, and were held hitless by Brit Krise in the last two frames at the Highland Street Elementary School Field.

On Saturday, Central Mountain\’s Taylor Lesser spun a two-hitter to shut out the Lady Bisons 6-0 at Peddie Park in Lock Haven.

Janell Zalno and Julie Colesar singled off Lesser, who struck out four and walked one for the Lady Wildcats\’ nine win in 13 games.

\”We looked real good Saturday,\” Clearfield coach Bob Dixon said. \”We didn\’t play as well tonight, but Mackenzie Moore did throw out three people trying to steal.\”

Megan Butler, Julie and Suzie Colesar and Morgan recorded the hits against Wallock, who worked five innings for the victory. She fanned three and walked two, as did Krise in her mop-up role.

The Lady Beavers, 5-2 in the D9NAL and 7-4 overall, were led by Lorianne Barbey\’s three hits and three RBIs, Morgan Hanna\’s two hits and Lindsey Obremski\’s triple and three RBIs.

Freshman Andrea Butler was the losing pitcher in both games, allowing 17 hits and six earned runs. She struck out five and walked five.

Dixon learned over the weekend that promising freshman pitcher-centerfielder B.J. Bowman has a broken finger on her throwing hand and will miss the remainder of the season.

She was hit by a pitch Friday when the Lady Bisons were two-hit by Curwensville standout Holly Lansberry in a 5-0 loss to the undefeated Lady Tide.

\”We knew she was hurting right away, but she toughed it out and got a hit after that,\” Dixon said.

In five games, Bowman belted seven hits, including three home runs, a triple and a double, for a .531 average. She drove in seven runs.

Tristan Lewis, another freshman, will be called up from the junior varsity to give Butler a breather during the next three very busy weeks.

Clearfield, 1-7 with an 0-3 league mark, will host Bradford in a D9NAL game Wednesday and then go on the road to play St. Marys Thursday and Penns Valley Friday.

Penns Valley was added to the schedule when Hollidaysburg cancelled its game with the Lady Bisons due to a lack of players for Friday.
