Opportunities Available for Spring Clean-Up

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Solid Waste Authority is announcing the following resources for planning, organizing and implementing a community litter clean up event.

Great PA Clean-Up Program

“Pick It Up PA Days” is the main event when Pennsylvanians from across the commonwealth conduct clean-up and planting projects. Communities are being asked to organize and conduct local clean-ups – recruit volunteers, promote the event and report the results for inclusion in statewide and national clean-up totals.

Pennsylvania’s 2009 “Pick It UP PA Days” are April 25 to May 9. If your organization would like to register a clean-up event or simply participate in an existing event, click here.

Registering your clean-up event has many benefits including access to free supplies free trash disposal at participating waste facilities, training on how to run a clean-up event safely and much more.

For assistance, contact Clearfield County Recycling Coordinator Jodi Brennan at 814-765-5149.

PennDOT Adopt-A-Highway Program

PennDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway Program is an effective way to reduce litter and overall cost of litter removal in Pennsylvania. By volunteering to clear a two-mile section of state highway four times a year, you and/or your group are caring for the environment and helping to minimize maintenance costs.

PennDOT will place a group identification sign at the end of your chosen section of state highway and will provide complete guidelines for volunteers as well as orange safety vests and gloves to be used during litter pick-ups. The department also provides trash bags and will pick up the bagged litter from the roadside. Volunteers must be at least 18-years-old and adults must accompany participants under 18.

If your group would like to participate in PennDOT’s Adop-A-Highway Program, contact PennDOT’s Clearfield County Maintenance Office at 814-765-0524. An Adopt-A-Highway coordinator will assist you on the terms of the program and help you select a two-mile stretch of state-maintained road to adopt.
