Two Treated After Johnsonburg Fire, Officials Investigating

JOHNSONBURG – A fire marshal from the Ridgway state police barracks and the Johnsonburg fire chief are investigating a fire that left one woman with burns to her arms and face.

According to the report the fire occurred at a two-story residence located at 336 Shawmut Avenue in Johnsonburg Borough on Thursday morning at about 12:54 a.m. The residents of the home, the Washburn family, were home sleeping when the fire occurred.

Police noted that smoke detectors activated and alerted the family of the fire.

Keith Washburn suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by emergency medical services. Jennifer Washburn suffered burns to her face and arms. She was transported from the scene by Johnsonburg Ambulance to Elk Regional Medical Center then flown to West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh for further treatment.

There were no other injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Damage to the home is estimated at $30,000.

The Johnsonburg Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Wilcox Fire Department. The Crystal Fire Department was on standby in Johnsonburg.
