SHIPPENVILLE – The Elk County Catholic girls and Clearfield boys have the honor of finishing the season as the No. 1 ranked teams in the sixth and final RRR Roadhouse/ D9Sports.com District 9 basketball rankings for the 2008-2009 season.
ECC (20-1) moved into the top spot last week and solidified that ranking with a win over then No. 2 St. Marys Friday night. Clearfield (17-1), meanwhile, also moved into the top spot last week and solidified its ranking with a win earlier in the week over No. 6 Johnsonburg.
There are no new additions to the girls’ overall rankings, although West Forest (19-1) and Cranberry (16-3) each move up a spot from No. 3 and No. 4 last week with St. Marys (17-2) dropping to No. 4. Also, Austin (18-2) moves into the No. 6 position after being No. 9 last week.
Brockway (12-8) is the lone new addition to the boys’ overall rankings coming in at No. 9 after knocking off No. 7 Kane during the week. Kane (11-9) drops to No. 10, and former No. 9 Port Allegany drops out after falling to Coudersport.
Kane’s loss to Brockway also means the Rovers move ahead of the Wolves into the No. 1 spot in Class AA, the only significant change in any of the boys’ classifications. Clearfield remains No. 1 in Class AAAA/AAA and DuBois Central Catholic (16-3), the No. 2 overall team, is still No. 1 in Class A.
In the girls’ class-by-class rankings, the three No. 1’s remain the same with St. Marys in the top spot in Class AAAA/AAA, Cranberry No. 1 in Class AA and ECC No. 1 in Class A. The only real change in any of the class-by-class rankings occurred in Class A where Austin moves up from No. 6 to No. 4 with Johnsonburg (14-5) and Union (13-7) each dropping a spot from No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.
These are the sixth and final RRR Roadhouse D9Sports.com rankings for the 2008-2009 season. They are the next-to-the-last rankings for the 2009 season.
