Central Dauphin, Reynolds Reign in PIAA Team Duals

HERSHEY – Central Dauphin repeated as Class AAA champion and Reynolds claimed its third Class AA title in four years at the 2009 PIAA Wrestling Team Duals in the Giant Center Saturday.

 

Central Dauphin (17-0) defeated Cumberland Valley 34-30 after building a 34-15 lead in the all-District 3 gold-medal match.

 

The Rams have won the last two PIAA individual tournaments as well as the last two team duals.

 

Central Dauphin\’s 30th consecutive win was its third of the season against Cumberland Valley, including 40-23 in the district finals.

 

In the semifinals, Central Dauphin rolled up a 31-10 lead to beat D-11 champ Northampton 31-28. The two teams are ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News.

 

The Konkrete Kids (22-1) bounced back to Boyertown 44-18 and D-6 champ Central Mountain 36-16 for third place.

 

Central Mountain trimmed D-11 runner-up Blue Mountain 39-28 in a consolation semifinal match between the two teams that sidetracked D-9 champion Clearfield.

 

In the Class AA championship meet, D-10 king Reynolds (22-0) dispatched D-7 runner-up Shady Side Academy (22-5) 42-18 after breezing to the finals with wins over D-3 runner-up Bermudian Springs 43-9 and D-6 champ Westmont-Hilltop 42-9.

 

Westmont-Hilltop (16-3) had upset defending champion and D-7 titlist Burrell 40-26 in the quarterfinals for the 400th win in school history and then slipped past D-3 champ Schuylkill Valley 30-27 in semis.

 

Schuylkill Valley defeated D-5 champ Bedford (19-2) 31-24 in the third-place match for the school\’s 500th victory.
