DuBois Drops Senior Night Game to St. Marys in OT

On Friday, January 30, The DuBois Area Beavers couldn’t stop the St. Marys comeback as the DuBois Beavers fell in overtime 60-54.

It truly was a very exciting senior night for the DuBois Beavers taking on the St. Marys Flying Dutch at home.  The stands were filled with the Beaver faithful and after the opening ceremony for the seniors, the game started in very good fashion. The Beavers ran a flawless defense holding the Dutch to just four points in the first period as their offense went on to score 16 by the end of the first.

Playing in the same fashion in the second period, the Beavers maintained a lead while the Dutch struggled to come back.  Both teams played well in the second scoring point for point with each other and tying in second period scoring.  When the dust settled as the Beavers went in at halftime it seemed as though they had a comfortable lead with the score 30-18.

During the next half of play the Dutch began devising a masterful comeback.  They began to outscore DuBois in the following periods by big margins.  When the 4th period started the Beavers were still ahead 39-29.  The 4th quarter played out to be a miserable defensive struggle on behalf of the Beavers as they were outscored big as St. Marys fought back to score 19 to the Beavers nine, sending the game into overtime with the score 48-48.

Senior Brant Davis led the Beavers in scoring with 16, the Beavers maintained on defense grabbing 27 defensive rebounds and doing a great job of shutting out the Dutch in the paint.  With overtime on its way the Beavers tried to remain focused.  Unfortunately it wouldn’t turn out too great for the DuBois Area Beavers as they were downed in overtime with a final score of 60-54, placing the Beavers record at 3-14.  Despite the big loss Coach Creighton had some words of encouragement for the players.

\”That\’s the way a game should be played. That\’s the way I expect DuBois basketball to be played for the rest of the season and in the future,\” Creighton commented.

It was a disappointing Senior night as this group of seniors have now played with the Beavers for three years which were all hard seasons.

\”Seniors gave an awesome effort and should be proud of their performance on Senior Night,\” Creighton said following the game Friday Night.

The DuBois Beavers are back in action next Tuesday, February 3, at home against Bradford.
