The DuBois Area Beavers suffered their 13th loss of the season to the Elk County Crusaders on Thursday, December 29, in St. Marys.
Things refuse to let up for DuBois as they venture down the path of their 3rd losing season in a row. For the Beavers this means that the program will need to be revised and reformatted for next season. For the time at hand though, the Beavers are trying as hard as they can to win, despite coming up short on more then one occasion this year.
Thursday night in St. Marys was not a step forward for the DuBois Beavers who have only won three games on the season. Elk County came out of the gate blasting. With a very good team and a record of 12-5, Elk County continues to impress every week. When they met the Beavers earlier in the season, the Beavers played very well, establishing a strong comeback and just falling short as Elk County toughened up the defense.
Thursday night’s showdown was far from a good game for the DuBois Area Beavers. As a matter of fact, the Beavers rarely led in the first period during the game. It was a very cold effort on the part of DuBois. They did manage to tighten up the score at the end of each quarter in the first half. Ending the first half 26-22. The Beaver shot at 38% on Thursday night. They only made 8/16 from the line and they only maintained 21 rebounds.
The Beavers came out with a comeback in mind and kept it close throughout the third period ending with a score of 34-31 heading into the final quarter. The 4th period was a very hard quarter for the Beavers as they started to trail early in and were outscored 18-8 creating a 52-39 final score with the Crusaders winning.
Cody Schalk led the Beavers in scoring with a solid 12 points. Garret Peterson trailed closely behind with 11 points. The Beavers will increase the level of their game Friday, January 30 when they take on St. Marys Dutch for senior night.
