Bisons Hold Off Bradford for 50-39 Victory

The Bisons are heating up at that right time, and mowing down all of their opponents with a mix of tough man to man defense and clutch scoring.  Clearfield has ripped off five straight victories over league opponents since suffering their first loss of the season two weeks ago to Elk County Catholic.

The Bisons latest victim was the Bradford Owls on Friday night.  Jarrin Campman paved the way scoring a game high 16 points while Matt Shiner pitched in with 10.

The Bisons got hot early going on a 7-0 run before a time out by Bradford with 5:59 to go in the first.  The Bisons built on their hot start to go up 14-6 at the end of the first period.  Everyone pitched in for Clearfield in the first frame with six different Bisons providing points including all five starters.

Clearfield found themselves coming into the second quarter ice cold only netting seven points in the period.  Jeremy Priester provided a short spark for the Bisons scoring a bucket off the bench and hitting a free throw.  Bradford on the other hand started to slightly heat up scoring 12 points in the quarter with Ryan Mackey and Evan Kline both hitting a pair of buckets to close the deficit to 21-18 at the intermission.

The Bisons got things going again early in the third quarter with Shiner and Campman both hitting three pointers, the duo scored five and six points respectively in the frame.  Not to be outdone, Pug Furham hit two long range three’s for Bradford to keep the momentum from shifting in either teams favor.  At the end of three the Bisons led 34-27.

For a moment things looked like they could turn bad fast for the Bisons when star forward Matt Shiner fouled out with a little over four minutes remaining in the game. Bradford kept things close the entire way until the final minutes of the game before Campman and Chad Zurat put the icing on the cake by both hitting a pair of free throws.  When the final buzzer rang Clearfield had come out on top 50-39.

The win helps to solidify the Bisons on the top of the District 9 League standings and move their record to 12-1.  Clearfield is back in action Monday night when they host rival DuBois in a league contest.
