CURWENSVILLE — Head Coach Vic Gearhart walked off the court showing anguish as he watched his Lady Tide lose to the Lady Damsels of Moshannon Valley, 46-31, inside Patton Hall.
On the opposing side of the court, Mo Valley head coach Aaron Mills was extremely pleased with his team and how they were able to perform.
“I think it was a terrific game all around,” said Mills. “We fought hard for the ball and had good movement around the court, so I am very pleased.”
In a game that was all about ball control, it was the Damsels that capitalized on 11 turnovers to produce points and build as much as a 24-point lead. Mo Valley also out-rebounded Curwensville, with Shannon Greslick leading the team with eight to go along with her 13 points. Vanessa Rowley matched Greslick’s point total while also getting four rebounds and leading the team in assists with six.
“Vanessa paced our offense, and that really helped us build momentum and keep them on their toes,” said Mills. “Shannon hustles to get the ball, and that was big in this game tonight.”
For the Tide, Hannah Walls had a team high 16 points while getting four rebounds and four assists. Tess Bloom led the team in rebounds with seven, while Alisia Bressler led the team in assists with six.
Mills was quick to point out that it was the rebounding ability that was the biggest difference in his eyes between the two teams.
“That is something we strive for every game: to win the battle of the boards. If we are able to win the battle near the basket, it usually means we can win,” said Mills.
In the junior varsity game, Curwensville defeated Mo Valley 31-11.
Curwensville (0-11) will be on the court again this Friday night as they are on the road against Brockway.
