Lady Bisons Dump Bradford 45-27

HYDE – The Clearfield girls basketball team picked up its second win of the season with a convincing 45-27 pounding of the visiting Bradford Owls Tuesday night. With the victory the Lady Bisons are now 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in District 9 AAA League play.

The Lady Owls played the slow down game the entire 32 minutes as they displayed one of the more patient offenses seen in quite some time. The Owls made many passes on the vast majority of their offensive possessions only to end up taking poor shots most of the time while passing up a better one.

This all played into the hands of Clearfield as they jumped out to a small 8-4 lead after one period of action.

Bradford did get close to Clearfield early in the second eight minutes, down 10-8, before the Lady Bisons went on an 8-0 run which helped them build a 20-12 bulge at the half. Senior Annie Janocko had eight first half points to pace the Lady Bisons.

Clearfield put the game on ice when they posted a 10-4 margin in the third period building their lead to 30-16. A lead that was fairly safe given the type of offense that the Lady Owls were employing.

The visitors from Bradford never got closer with Clearfield coasting the final eight minutes to win going away.

Clearfield was led by Gwenn Porter and Amber Byerly who each scored 10. Janocko finished with the eight points she had at the half.

Bradford had two players come off the bench, Kaitlyn Morris and Michelle Keane, to pace them in scoring with 6 each.

The Lady Owls drop to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the District 9 AAA standings.

Clearfield head coach Joey C was certainly pleased with a win his squad needed, “I was very happy with the defensive effort from all the girls. It was a win that we had to have with Bradford having a down year. Now we just have to build on this going into the holiday tournament.”

The Lady Bisons will compete in the Bald Eagle Area tournament starting this Saturday.

The Clearfield junior varsity lost it’s first contest as the Lady Owls won 46-27 in the first game.
