Bisons Roll Past Dutch 42-20 for District AAA Title

Brockway — Almost three years to the day of Clearfield’s last District Championship, yet again two Campmans helped lead them to the title.  In 2005 Defensive Coordinator Forrest Campman and his oldest son senior running back Curtis Campman helped lead the Bisons to a title with Curtis coming up with 132 yards rushing and an interception and fumble recovery on defense, while Coach Campman\’s defense held the high powered Dutch offense to under 20 points in a 21-18 victory.

In 2008 Coach Campman’s other two sons, Jarrin and Trey, lead Clearfield to their first title since the one previously mentioned in 2005. Jarrin accounted for over 250 total yards and 6 touchdowns and hauled in two interceptions on
defense while Trey added 40 yard receiving and a score along with a pick on defense.

“Phenomenal game,” said Clearfield head coach Tim Janocko of his star quarterback Jarrin’s effort. “He decided he wanted to win and he took over.”

Clearfield showed early that this was their game to win.  The Dutch
appeared as if they were going to score the first points of the game as
they marched downfield on their first possesion and found themselves
with a first and 10 from the Bison 14 yard line.  Trey Campman was not
ready to allow a Dutch sore.  As St. Marys quarterback Greg Simchick
dropped back to pass Trey, the younger of the Campman clan, read the
quarterback eyes and picked off the pass at the Bison 5 yard line. The
interception perhaps set the tone for the Bisons as they would come up
with three interceptions on the night with Trey’s older brother Jarrin
picking up two of them.

“Our defensive buckled down and made plays when we needed them,” said
 Coach Janocko

Clearfield got the scoring going early with Jarrin Campman rolling out
to his left and throwing a perfect deep ball to receiver Brandon Sass in
the end zone for a 44 yard score with 5:56 remaining in the first quarter.

On the ensuing Bison possession Campman decided he needed to out do
himself on his 44 yard pass and called his own number and outran the
entire Dutch defense for a 45 yard touchdown run strutting his way into
the end zone with the poise of a legend, holding the ball just inside of
the pilon as if taunting the St. Marys defense telling them this was
as close as they would come to touching him the rest of the night.

“We felt that they were ganging up on Isiah a little bit so we put some
wrinkles in tonight for Jarrin to be able to run the ball,” said Janocko.

Jarrin, a second team all state selection at defensive back last season,
showed he hasn’t become all about offense, picking off his second pass of
the night and yet again setting himself up for a score.  Campman would
call his own number once again and score on a 6 yard scamper.  From that
point on it was clear sailing for the Bisons.

St. Mary would eventually add a score with time dwindling down  in the
first half as Simchick would score on a one yard plunge bringing the
game to 21-7.

Cleafield wasn’t done scoring.  On their first drive of the second half
the Bisons marched down field and on 2nd down Jarrin hit
younger brother Trey for a 17 yard touchdown on a beautiful diving
catch. Campman would cap off two more scoring drives with runs of 1
and 12 yards.

Though Clearfield came away with the victory their defense showed signs
of vulnerability giving up over 300 yards rushing as every single St.
Marys running back went over the century mark with Kevin Hoy, Shane
Krise, and Mitchell Straub accounting for  133, 111, 103 yards
respectively.

“Give Saint Marys credit, they were able to keep us off-balance with
their running game,” Janocko said.

The Bisons will take on the winner of the Pittsburgh City League
Championship between Perry and Brashear next Friday in Pittsburgh.
Perry is an all too familiar foe, bouncing the Bisons from their last 3
state playoff appearances.  Brashear however could be a new foe.

“Brashear has some good speed.  The have a Division 1 recruit at running
back.  We will just have to take a look at film and just come out and
play a good game against whoever we are matched up against,” commented
Janocko
