The last time the Bisons and the St. Marys Flying Dutch squared off it
was for a chance to advance to the 2007 District 9 AAA Championship game. It
was a game most Bisons fans wish they could forget as Clearfield
surrendered a 14-10 lead with a little less than 5 minutes remaining in
the 3rd quarter. The Dutch would go on to score 20 unanswered points
and defeat Clearfield 30-14. Turnovers ultimately were what killed the
Bisons as Jarrin Campman threw a career high six interceptions in the
game; which is one less than he has thrown all of this season.
St. Marys enters the game with a 6-3 record looking to clinch a match up
with the Bisons next week for the District 9 AAA Championship The
Dutch are lead by running backs Kevin Hoy, Shane Krise, and Michael
Straub. All three backs have run for over 480+ yards on the season and
a combined 26 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Greg Simchick has been
efficient at times for the Dutch throwing for over 500 yards and 3
touchdowns. James Swanson, who led St. Marys to the win last year as the
quarterback, has become Simchick\’s favorite target at receiver, hauling in
15 balls for 156 yards and a touchdown.
Clearfield will need to jumpstart the senior duo of Isaiah Morgan and
Jarrin Campman if they hope to come away with a win. Morgan and Campman
had dazzled offensively all season until last week when the Huntingdon
defense held Morgan to under 50 yards rushing and Campman was intercepted
twice.
Clearfield will also need a big game from the defense in order to come
out on top. Clearfield’s three down lineman of Nick Redden, Cruise Kerr,
and Robert Faust will need to clog up the line of scrimmage and shutdown
the Dutch rushing attack. With those three clogging up the line of
scrimmage linebackers Josh Rippey, Andre Buck, Isaiah Morgan, Scott
Nishida, and Derek Danver should be able to provide solid run support.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 P.M. at the Bison Sports Complex with Senior
Recognition before the game.
