Clearfield Fall Ball Baseball Team Finishes with 8-game Winning Streak

CLEARFIELD – Strong pitching and some clutching hitting enabled the Clearfield fall baseball team to sweep a pair of double-headers at the Lawrence Township Recreation Park Field Saturday and Sunday to finish the season with an eight-game winning streak.

Manager Sid Lansberry\’s squad defeated West Branch 7-4 and 12-1 on Saturday with winning pitchers Isaac Butler and Trevor Flanagan registering complete games and downed State College 4-2 and 9-1 on Sunday on a one-hitter by Aaron Sayers and a combined three-hitter by Michael Moyer and Justin Hoffman.

Butler posted a seven-hitter for his third victory of the season, and Kyle Timchak\’s bases-loaded triple highlighted a five-run rally in the fifth inning that wiped out West Branch\’s 3-2 lead.

Sayers singled and tripled and Matt Lonjin singled twice for Clearfield.

Brandon Myers, who belted a home run, and Adam Timchak each had three hits off Butler.

In the nightcap, shortened to five innings by the Mercy Rule, Trevor Flanagan hurled a six-hitter, losing a shutout in the last frame.

Clearfield\’s 12-hit attack was led by Kyle Timchak\’s three singles, Justyn Knepp\’s single and double and Tanner St. Clair\’s two singles. Matt Flanagan and Tyler Jacobson drove in two runs apiece.

Myers tripled and Gavin Luzier had a pair of singles for West Branch.

On Sunday, Sayers struck out 11 and walked six in shutting down State College for his third consecutive win, with Brandon Auman\’s fourth-inning double the lone hit for the visitors.

Clearfield trailed 2-1 in the third inning when St. Clair came through with a three-run homer to deep center for the game-winning hit.

St. Clair also doubled, while Sayers contributed a single and a double and Jarrett Fulmer also doubled.

Hoffman, who worked three innings, was the the second game winner in relief of Moyer, who held State College hitless through three frames. They combined for a dozen strikeouts.

The hosts banged out nine hits, doubles by Hoffman, Sayers, Kyle Timchak and St. Clair. Hoffman and Sayers had two hits apiece.

Cody Barr had a double for State College.

Clearfield wound up with an 10-11 record after losing nine of its first 10 games. Six of the setbacks were by three or less runs.
