Ridgway Elkers (2-3) at Curwensville Golden Tide (4-1)

Midway through the 2008 season, head coach Andy Evanko\’s Curwensville Golden Tide football team is showing that they do not quit until the final whistle blows to end the game.  Through the first five games of the season, the Tide has outscored their opponents 161-91, averaging 32 points per game.  This explosive offense is looking to continue their winning ways as Curwensville hosts the Ridgway Elkers on Friday night.

The Elkers (2-3) are coming off a thrashing last Friday by Johnsonburg, 34-6.  Expect to see a lot of work out of the backfield by Elliot Pontious, who on the season is averaging 145.3 yards per game including six touchdowns.  The Ridgway offense averages 234.5 rushing yards per game, while the passing game is kept to a minimum with only 46.3 yards per game from quarterback Joe Renaud.

The Golden Tide (4-1) is coming off a 42-27 victory at Brockway, mainly due to the impressive performance from Jed Greslick, who ran for 188 yards and three touchdowns, one being a 62-yard sprint to the end zone.  What has been equally as impressive is the combination of quarterback David Kalgren and wide receiver Jesse Hoover.  Kalgren on the season has thrown for 828 yards and 11 touchdowns while only throwing three interceptions.  Hoover has become his go-to receiver as he has accounted for 430 of those yards and six touchdowns.

The advantage looks to be in the favor of Curwensville in this match-up of Allegheny Mountain League teams, but on what looks to be a cold night in Curwensville, things will surely heat up on the field of play.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
