The Clearfield girls and boys cross-country squads continue to improve as they approach the heart of the dual meet season. It was nice to see some of the younger runners excell with the tough competition at the Spiked Shoe Invitational.
Johanna Ryan ran an exceptionally strong race with her best time of 22:14. Another suprise was Julianna Mellgard, a new addition to the team running strong with her best time of 23:05. Juliana is having a great season for a freshman. Gwenn and Bethany are running consistantly fast this early in the season. Both girls have run many miles through the summer and into the season.
Head Coach John Jacob stated, \”With all the miles on their legs and no real speed training I am suprised to see such consistancy this early from both runners. I can\’t wait to see what they are capable of later in the season as their training pays off.\”
On the boys side Tyler Bumbarger and Andrew Yingling have both picked up where they left off last year and are getting to the point in the season where their times will start to drop. Freshman Jesse Neyam has continued to improve his times and has been very impressive in his first year of running. Also Alec Coble has matured and is really improving each race.
Clearfield\’s next meet will be at Brookville on Tuesday September 16th, at 4:15.
