Clearfield Fall Baseball Team Notches First Win

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield fall baseball team broke into the win column in the nightcap of Sunday afternoon\’s double-header against Bellefonte at the Lawrence Township Recreation Park Field.
 
Tyler Jacobson pitched a complete game in the 11-4 victory that halted Clearfield\’s season-opening, five-game losing streak.
 
Justin Hoffman\’s three singles, Aaron Sayers\’ two hits and Kyler Kephart\’s double paced a 10-hit attack.
 
In the first game, Clearfield carried a 6-4 lead into the top of the seventh inning, but Bellefonte erupted for eight runs off starter Trevor Flanagan and three relievers to pull out a 12-7 win.
 
A grand slam home run by Robbie Hohn highlighted the rally.
 
Manager Sid Lansberry\’s team was led by Hoffman\’s three singles, Justyn Knepp\’s double and Garrett Sampsell\’s two runs batted in.
 
Derek Jabco had three hits for the visitors.
 
Clearfield also saw a late-inning lead evaporate Saturday, as Philipsburg came up with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to prevail 12-11 at Osceola Mills.
 
Tanner St. Clair homered and doubled to drive in three runs, Isaac Butler and Knepp had a single and a double apiece, Sayers singled twice and Hoffman doubled in the setback.
 
Hoffman, the second of four Clearfield hurlers, took the loss.
 
Philipsburg banged out 18 hits, including a double and two singles by Coltyn Wrye, a double and a single by Chad Dreibelbis and a home run by Paul Hahn. 
 
Clearfield will travel to DuBois Thursday for a 4:30 game, host Philipsburg Saturday at 11 a.m. and visit Altoona Sunday for a 1 p.m. twinbill.
