Gongloff Gets First Career Win at Hesston

HESSTON, PA – Jake Gongloff of Huntingdon picked up his first career Walter’s Auto Wrecking and Salvage Hobby Stock feature win Saturday night at Hesston Speedway. Cliff Conner won the Auto Locator Pa 305 Sprints while the repeat winners included Matt Parks in the Georges Used Cars Limited Late Models and Khi Swanger in the street stocks.

The limited late models took to the speedway with Matt Parks and Robby Garlock on the front row with Parks taking the lead and setting the pace with Derek Byler following Parks past Garlock into second and the front two waged their own battle early on, but Rance Garlock then moved into third from his fifth place starting spot and battled with the leaders as they made their way through lapped traffic. Parks was able to hold off the Byler challenges the entire distance for his second win of the season. Byler was second, Rance Garlock was third, Robby Garlock was fourth and Brad Kling was fifth. Steve Bailor, Mike Duck and Justin Kann split the heat wins.

Mark Watkins and Cliff Conner led the 18 car PA 305 Sprints to the green with Watkins taking the lead and leading the20field as he was flying around the half mile oval in record time, but as he began to work lapped traffic disaster struck, as Watkins tangled with a lapped car and flipped, ending his night. He wasn’t injured.

With Watkins out of contention, Conner assumed the lead and was setting his own pace, but late in the race, Mike Heckman began to reel in the leader, but Conner had enough of a lead built up to hold on for the win. Heckman, Nathan Gramley, Andy Haus and Roger Irvine completed the top five. Tom Warrick Jr., Andy Haus and Mark Watkins won the preliminaries.

Dave Brown and Josh Berrier lined up on the front row of the street stock feature but Berrier and another car made contact on the backstretch and Jesse Snyder crashed missing the spinning Berrier car. On the restart it was Khi Swanger lining up along side of Brown and it was Swanger who took the lead and led the field the entire distance holding off the challengers of Brown, Cris Edwards Jr. and Bill Henney. Henney came from 10th to reel in Swanger at the end but could not get past the young racer. At the line it was Swanger over Henney, Edwards, Brown and Tim Brindle. Heat wins went to Bill Henney and Jesse Snyder.

Daren Desch and Jake Gongloff lined up on the front row of the hobby stock field with Gongloff taking the lead and setting the pace. While Gongloff led he had Desch hounding him the whole way, while Ryan Sager, Chad Gambol and Joe Dearmitt all tr ying to steal the Huntingdon racers glory, but Gongloff was finally able to shake the monkey that’s hounded him for several years as he picked up the victory. Desch held on to second with Dearmitt, Sager and Terry Norris completing the top five. Heat wins went to Mike Grubb, Damion Miller and Carl Snare.
