Pletcher Wins Career First at Dog Hollow

STRONGSTOWN, PA – Adam Pletcher of Tire Hill won his first career Texas Auto Ranch Four Cylinder Sidewinder Feature on John and Jean Auto Sales Trophy night at Dog Hollow Speedway Friday night.

A host of repeat drivers also picked up wins including Shawn “Sheets” McGarvey of Coalport in the Townsend Gas and Oil Late Models, Tommy Snyder of Mayport in the Stoystown Auto Wreckers Fastrak Late Models, Jim Boyer of Indiana in the Jeff Dick Home Sales Street Stocks and Tim Laughard of Vinco in the Brush Valley Tire Pure Stocks.

The late models were led to the start with Rudy Bassaro and Randy Smithley bringing the field to the start with Bassaro leading the first lap before looping the #MR7 in turn one to bring out the first caution. On the restart Smithley had inherited the lead with Bernie Whiteford in second and Ben Satterlee in third. As Shawn McGarvey moved into second on lap six a caution waved to regroup the field.

On the restart, McGarvey went to the outside of Smithly off the second turn, but Smithley slammed the door, denying McGarvey of the lead. Another caution waved on lap 10, giving McGarvey another shot at the lead. He again went to the outside of Smithley off turn two, but he was along side this time, denying Smithley of slamming the door. At the line on lap 11 McGarvey held the lead. From there Smithley had to hold off Billy Eash and a fast closing Tim Snare Jr. for second. At the line the top five were McGarvey, Smithley, Eash, Snare and Whiteford. Heat wins went to Randy Smithley and Shawn McGarvey.

Kirby Tucker and Dan Angelicchio led the Fastrak late models to the green flag with Angelicchio taking the lead at the line and setting the pace. While he led, second place back was being challenged as Tucker had it but other wanted it, including sixth place starter Tommy Snyder. Snyder passed Tucker for second on lap 14 and set his sights on Angelicchio who had a sizable lead, but a late caution waved, slowing the field and giving Snyder the chance he needed. As the race started, Snyder went under Angelicchio in turns three and four, but Angelicchio held off the #1F, but with the white flag waving, Snyder tried again off the second turn as Snyder went under the leader but slid high, as Angelicchio dove to the bottom of the track in turn four but Snyder had the speed built up and took the win by inches over Angelicchio. The top five were Snyder, Ancelicchio, Gary Stahl, Tucker and Ron Smithley. Heat wins went to Ron Smithley and Dan Angelicchio.

The street stock feature was not decided until the final lap at the line, as Mike Laughard and Denny Keener led the field to the start with Keener taking the lead and Laughard in second, then from fifth place Jim Boyer came up to challenge the leaders for the top spot as the front three were side-by-side and Boyer made it three wide at the line several times with Keener holding on the lead each lap but on lap 11 a caution flew with Laughard the leader. On the restart, Boyer went to the outside of Laughard and took the lead and eventual win. Laughard, Keener, Tyler Hite and John McCann completed the top five. John McCann and Jim Boyer won the heats.

The pure stock feature saw Tony Daughenbaugh and John Mazey lead the field to the start with Mazey taking the lead and Tim Laughard in second. On lap two Laughard quickly took the lead and Mazey fell to second with Sam McAdams and Justin Queen in third and fourth. As Laughard continued to lead McAdams dropped Mazey to third to contend with Queen, but McAdams dropped out giving up the chase for the lead. That left Mazey in second and Queen third along with Marshall Detwiler in the top four.

Like McAdams, Detwiler dropped out leaving fourth up in the air with Matt Summers and Jeremy Shaffer jockeying for position. On lap nine, Daughenbaugh began to slow, leaving fluid on the backstretch that Shaffer got in as he tried to get under Queen, caution the final caution of the night. With five laps to go, Laughard held off the challenges from Mazey to get his fourth win of the season. Mazey, Rich Powell, Summers and Mike Silk rounded out the top five. Heat wins went to Tim Laughard and John Mazey.

Ray Hickok Jr. beat fellow front row starter Adam Laughard into the first turn to lead the four cylinder feature for seven laps. As Hickok led, Adam Pletcher was in second and trying to get past the #48 but Hickok was too tough, then on the eighth lap, Pletcher was able to get the lead and as the field weaved its way through lapped traffic, Pletcher was able to hold off Hickok and it was Pletcher who took his first career feature win. Hickok, Brennan McCracken, Dan Adams and Mark maglett completed the top five. Adam Pletcher, Dan Adams and Mark Maglett won the heats.
