Zimmermann, Jury Lead Chiefs Past First Place DuBois 15-9

HYDE – James Zimmermann and Adam Jury slugged home runs and totaled nine runs driven in to spark Clearfield to a crucial 15-9 win over front-running DuBois in Jefferson County Legion Baseball League action at the Bison Sports Complex Monday evening.

The Post 6 Chiefs all but locked up third place with their 10th victory in 15 games while handing the JCL leaders only their third loss in 16 outings.

Manager Sid Lansberry\’s team still is very much in the hunt for second place as Punxsutawney currently shows four losses. The Chiefs visit Punxsy\’s Rich Kuntz Memorial Field Wednesday for a 6 p.m. make-up game.

Zimmermann ignited a 10-run first inning against two DuBois hurlers with a two-run homer and singled in two more runs later before Jury capped the outburst with a three-run homer.

Zimmermann, Derek Danver and Justin Hoffman had three hits apiece for the Post 6 Chiefs, who scored their other five runs in the second inning for a 15-2 bulge. Hoffman, who doubled, had a pair of RBIs.

Clearfield was held to three hits in its last four at-bats by T.J. Anderson, and the Chiefs\’ lead shrunk to 15-8 in the fifth when Peterson whacked a three-run homer and Garrett Marsh smacked a solo shot to chase Jury, who was making his first mound appearance of the season.

The right-hander came on because starter Michael Moyer departed after one scoreless inning because of a sore arm.

Southpaw Corey Bookhamer, coming off a six-inning stint against Brookville in the Clearfield Legion Independence Day Invitational Saturday, replaced Jury and gave up a run on three singles in the sixth.

When Les Miller and Jordan LaBue opened the seventh with singles, Lansberry switched to Justin Hoffman, and he set down the visitors on an infield pop-up, a fly to left and a grounder to short to make Jury the winner.

Miller had socked a two-run homer in the second inning, and LaBue had a two-run single in the fifth.

Kasey Clinton led DuBois\’ 13-hit attack with three singles.

Clearfield, 13-10 overall, has a home game with Reynoldsville (3-10) Thursday and a road game with Curwensville Saturday at Hepburnia.
