DUBOIS – Sandy Township may soon have an outdoor furnace ordinance.
The Sandy Township Supervisors and their legal counsel have been exploring the issue for some time now, and Monday night they gave their solicitor the green light to draft a proposed ordinance.
The proposed ordinance would limit which zones outdoor furnaces would be allowed in, what fuels could be burned, a limit to what months the outdoor furnaces could be used in and the stack size.
“I think we should move forward,” said Mark Sullivan, supervisor. “We have a problem.”
Sullivan also suggested that outdoor furnaces not be used between May and September as well as keeping them out of heavily populated areas.
A sample ordinance may be presented at one of next month’s supervisors’ meetings.
