REYNOLDSVILLE – The Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6 baseball team backed Parker Herrington\’s one-hit gem with an extra-base barrage against two Reynoldsville pitchers for a 10-1 victory Thursday evening.
Herrington notched 12 strikeouts in his first start for the Chiefs, who balanced their Jefferson County League record at 2-2.
The right-hander walked three batters.
Two-run home runs by Adam Jury and Cory Bookhamer highlighted an 11-hit attack, which included four doubles, two by Jarrin Campman.
James Zimmermann had three hits and two runs batted in.
Trailing 1-0, the Chiefs grabbed the lead in the third inning. Walks to David Ryan and Zimmermann around a Campman two-bagger loaded the bases. Jury tied the score with a sacrifice fly, and Campman tallied the winning run on an error. The Chiefs stole a third run when Tanner St. Clair walked and took off for second base, drawing a throw that allowed Zimmermann to race home from third base.
Clearfield added an unearned run in the fifth before chasing loser Jeremy Grove in the sixth.
After Justin Hoffman walked, Campman and Zimmermann cracked back-to-back doubles and Jury belted his homer to right center.
Jon Baummer relieved Grove and issued a walk to St. Clair before Bookhamer punctuated the six-run outburst with his homer, also clearing the right center fence.
Manager Sid Lansberry\’s Chiefs will host Curwensville Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Bison Sports Complex.
