This week’s GantDaily Shout Out is straight and to the point:
Do you think the economic stimulus checks will really help to stimulate the economy?
Remember to send your responses to editor@gantnews.com and to include your name and hometown. Responses will be posted Tuesday morning and will run for one week on this edition of the Shout Out.
No. The majority of people will need to spend it on bills or rising fuel and food costs just to survive. Because of this, it will not add new money into the economy.

I do belive that the checks will pay off IF we spend the money and not pay bills or spend it on gas.

With the low amount of the checks, although welcomed by many, most used to pay charge cards and charge accounts from the past. I think with the ever continuing rising gas prices as well as increases with everything else from medications, to clothing, food etc I don’t see a big change in the economy and I hope I am wrong but I truly don’t see it happening.
I just saw the news tonight where it is expected for a farming bill to be vetoed that would help woman infants and children (WIC) farmers, schools and so forth. If we can’t learn from the gas situations that relying on others outside of the US, can you imagine what will happen to our country if we have to rely on them for our foods? We are a rich country and lets keep it that way.

If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China. If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs. If we purchase a computer, it will go to India. If we purchase fruits and vegetables, itwill go to Honduras and Guatemala. If we purchase a good car, it will go to Japan. If we purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy.
We need to keep that money here in America. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it at yard sales, since those are the only businesses left owned by Americans!!

Yes , but it will be very short lived . Most people I know are planning to use the money to pay bills or buy heating fuel for next year , so it really isn’t going to get anyone to far , let alone boost our struggling economy .

I believe if we spend the money on a business that is LOCALLY OWNED it will definitely help. If we pay off heating bills, credit cards, or spend it on corporations where the money doesn’t stay local, then yes, it will only hurt the economy.
