Track Seating for Daughtry Sold Out

CLEARFIELD – Track seating for the Aug. 2 Daughtry Concert are sold out, according to a press release from the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department Fair & Park Board.

Grandstand and bleacher seating are still available for Daughtry at this time.

All seating remains available for Foreigner (July 29), Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert (July 30) and Cinderalla and Warrant (Aug. 1).

Clearfield Borough Receives Funding for Lighting Project

CLEARFIELD – One area of Clearfield Borough appears to be headed in a brighter direction.

Clearfield Mayor Patty Gilliland announced at the Clearfield Borough Council meeting Thursday night that not only has the borough received a Growing Greener II grant, but also matching funds.

Clearfield Borough, Others May be Facing Litigation from PennDOT

CLEARFELD – Clearfield Borough, Continental Construction and Glen O. Hawbaker’s may be facing legal action from PennDOT regarding paving along Park Avenue.

That announcement was made at last night’s Clearfield Borough Council committees meeting. Borough Solicitor F. Cortez “Chip” Bell III said the area in question is near Saterlee’s.

Michigan Woman Arrested for Possession of Heroin

COOPER TOWNSHIP – State police arrested a Detroit, MI woman after a stop along Interstate 80 on Monday.

According to police Laverna March was pulled over for a traffic violation near westbound milemarker 138. She provided false identification and indicators of criminal activity were observed. She provided officers consent to search her vehicle.

Inside the vehicle a bag of white powder and brown powder were found. They could not be identified. Also found was five balls of a brown substance in plastic baggies.

County Commissioners Concerned about Unpaid Hotel Taxes

CLEARFIELD – County Solicitor Kim Kesner noted a number of delinquent hotel and lodge facilities that have not properly filed or paid its hotel tax at Tuesday’s Clearfield County Commissioner’s work session.

Kesner said the problem isn’t new but has been recurring.

He also noted several of the facilities failed to comply in the past and have been notified.

CASD Aims for 3 Mills

CLEARFIELD – In order to reach 3 Mills, the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors discussed the administration’s recommended cuts during its second budget work session Monday night.

The board heard from Tom Mohney, who serves as the supervisor of Special Education for the district.

According to Mohney, the district’s alternative off-campus education programs cost well over $800,000.

“It’s hard to look at the budget and not see it,” he said. “We need to take a look and respond.”

County Commissioners Still Dissatisfied with PA Waste

CLEARFIELD – PA Waste LLC, of Feasterville, issued a response to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Second Technical Review letter for the proposed construction of its Camp Hope Run Landfill in Boggs Township, County Solicitor Kim Kesner said Tuesday at the County Commissioner’s work session.

In a Feb. 25 letter, David Garg, professional engineer, facilities manager and waste management of DEP, notified PA Waste the application was incomplete, as it didn’t include required information about a harms/benefits analysis, traffic analysis and the need for a permit term longer than 10 years.

Garg asked PA Waste to submit a revision within 60 days of its receipt of the review letter, or the application would not be accepted. He also left them with the option to decline the request and ask DEP to make a final decision based on the information already made available.

Peebles Coming to Clearfield

CLEARFIELD – Residents in the Clearfield area will soon be getting a new place to shop.

Peebles will be opening a store at the old Riverside located near the Clearfield Mall. That announcement was made by Lawrence Township Code Enforcement Officer Zach Lawhead on Tuesday.

Lawrence Township, Teamsters Face Rising Insurance Costs

CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors and the Teamsters got something a surprise when they received their latest invoice for health insurance.

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Lawrence Township Supervisors it was announced that health insurance had increased by 70 percent. That would put the township over $112,000 to $113,000 over their budgeted amount for the four departments they pay to cover.
