Tide Extends Streak to Eleven, Beats Brookville 10-0

CURWENSVILLE – Curwensville’s defending state championship softball squad won their eleventh straight battle Friday afternoon in beating Brookville 10-0, at Riverside Stadium. It was the fifth straight shutout for Curwensville. They have now held their opponents scoreless over the last 24 innings. All five games have been shortened due to either the ten or fifteen run rule.

Holly Lansberry picked up her tenth win of the season against one loss. Lansberry has now thrown eight shutouts (including three no-hitters) and given up just four earned runs.

Curwensville picked up three runs in the first inning with one swing of the bat as Ashley Demchak drove a three run homer straight over the center field fence. It was the second game in a row that Demchak has jacked one out of the park. The junior catcher also had two other hits, one being a triple, and drove in a total of four runs. In her last four games Demchak is 11 for 14 at the plate with 10 RBI’s, two home runs, two doubles and one triple. All that spells “Smokin” !

The Tide would add three more in the bottom of the third inning and four to end the game early in the bottom half of the sixth with two outs.

Lansberry also picked up three hits, all singles, while Jenessa Stiles and Morgan Peterman each had two hits. Peterman, Stiles and Sara Clark all had doubles to help the Lady Tide pick up the ten tallies.

Curwensville head coach Allen Leigey afterwards talked about hitting, “With Ash (Demchak), Pete (Morgan Peterman) and Jenessa (Stiles) we have a lineup that is truly smacking the heck out of the ball. And actually, all the girls are doing very well at the plate. We only struck out one time today against a quality pitcher. That says it all.”

The Lady Tide, now 12-1, have a long road trip awaiting them on Saturday as they travel to Sheffield for a 4:15 pm game. Last season the Lady Tide smothered Sheffield twice, 13-0 and 9-0.
