AMESVILLE – Defending champion Curwensville completed its first trip around the Moshannon Valley League undefeated by scoring in every inning for a 15-6 victory over Moshannon Valley in schoolboy baseball action on the Black Knights\’ home diamond Saturday morning.
Ben McGary was the big gun for the Golden Tide, driving in five runs with a double and two singles.
Jed Greslick, Brett McCracken and Jonathan Michaels added two hits apiece, one of Michaels going for two bases, while Wes McGarry had three RBIs.
\”McGary had a big day, and so did Michaels,\” Curwensville coach Ryan Briskar. \”That was Michaels\’ first day as a DH (designated hitter). We gave him a chance, and he stepped up.\”
Mo Valley (1-6, 1-2 MVL) matched Curwensville\’s two-run first inning and three-run second inning before the Golden Tide went in front to stay with three more in the third, two coming on McGary\’s double.
McCracken, who relieved starter Jesse Hoover in the second, picked up the win. He worked 3-2/3 innings, striking out three, walking two and giving up four hits and one run.
McGarry blanked the Blank Knights over the last two innings.
\”Wes needed a couple innings and I brought him in so I could go to McCracken if I had to,\” Briskar said, noting that PIAA pitching rules require two days rest for pitchers who log four or five innings in a game.
Curwensville (7-2) begins a second consecutive four-game week at Brookville Monday. The Golden Tide also has road games against St. Marys Wednesday and West Branch Friday before a rematch with Mo Valley Saturday.
Losing hurler Marc Godin and Dustin Stouffer each had two hits and B.J. Stephens doubled for the Black Knights.
