LTE: Cardboard Checks

While reading some of the postings on a political forum, I came across a link that took me to State Senator John Eichelberger’s (30th District) Constituent Service Center and, more specifically, a blog titled “I’m always going to give you the straight story”. It deals with his refusal to pose for a photo with a giant cardboard check, and can be read in its entirety here.

An excerpt from his blog is as follows: “My reason for not participating in the photo is that this is government money, not my money. I don’t think that it is appropriate to stand next to a government check and take credit for doing my job as a government official. … The people of Pennsylvania would be surprised to learn that very often the officials standing up and taking credit for the project in today’s paper have nothing to do with that project.”

What a breath of fresh air! Hats off to the voters of the 30th District who had the good sense to retire Sen. Robert Jubelierer, a career politician who participated in the scandalous late-night legislative pay grab of 2005.
