Curwensville Baseball Gets Back on Track, Dumps Glendale 14-3

CURWENSVILLE – After dropping their first game of the year on Monday the Curwensville Golden Tide baseball team had a more pleasurable afternoon Tuesday when visiting Glendale came to town. The Tide won their sixth game by taking care of the Vikings 14-3, in a Moshannon Valley League (MVL) battle. The game went just four and a half innings as the 10 run rule was applied.

The Vikings started out on fire in the top half of the first inning, scoring three runs, thanks to a walk and a couple of Tide errors. Unfortunately for Glendale that would be the last of their fireworks for the day as Tide pitchers Brett McCracken  and Sam Gardner would shut the door.

Curwensville did tally one run in their half of the first but it was the second inning that proved deadly for the Vikings. The Tide pushed across seven runs jump out in front 8-3, never looking back. They would put four more on the board in the third and two extra runs in the fourth to complete the rout.

Tide sophomore, Jed Greslick, was the only player with two hits, one being a double. Curwensville also had doubles from Wes McGarry and Jesse Hoover. Hoover led all scorers as he crossed home plate three times.

Golden Tide head coach, Ryan Briskar, was glad to get back on track after a tough Monday loss to Elk County Catholic, 2-0, “The players and coaches know how nice this is to get right back on the field and pick up the win. We may have not played our best game today, but we did get it done.”

Briskar also saw something else that put a smile on his face, “We hit the ball well today after only getting one hit yesterday. I am just happy that didn’t carry over from Monday.”

The Tide will travel to Brockway on Thursday to meet the Rovers. Game time is 4:15 pm. Curwensville is 6-1 on the 2008 campaign and 3-0 in the MVL. Glendale, under head coach John Matchock, is still winless at 0-6 and 0-2 in the Moshannon Valley League. The Vikings play host to Williamsburg on Wednesday with game time set for 4 pm.
